5 Upcoming Home Décor Trends for 2018

 In Home Improvement, Latest News

Bringing in the new year might inspire you to bring in a new look to your home. You might be planning to do some interesting upgrades and renovations to your home, but you don’t want to be out of the style loop and plan a project that will be in “bad taste”. It’s a new year, and as such, 2018 is going to be full of new styles and trends. Here are a few predictions of upcoming trends in home decoration.

Naturals
Natural stone slabs are going to be a good choice for upgrades in home décor, especially when it comes to countertops. Both counters in kitchens and bathrooms can benefit from the strength and beauty of stone surfaces. Limestones and granites are especially high up on the list of great countertop choices because of their earthy tones, but limestone is very porous and will require a sealing agent to prevent staining. Limestone is also popular for flooring, but is softer than granite and more prone to cracks.

Brass is In
Because of its warm color, brass accents and fixtures are going to be popular for home décor in 2018. Silver and similar finishes are becoming too common, and homeowners are stepping away from it to give their homes a look that’s both unique and subtle. Bronzes and darker metals are also making their way into articles involving current home décor.

High Contrast Colors
Rather than choosing very light colors to accompany equally light trim and molding, homeowners are leaning toward making a statement with the color schemes of their homes. Light colored trim and molding are being paired with deeper, contrasting wall colors, like deep browns, reds, and teals. This can be flipped by having a dark, woody-colored trim and molding to make rose-colored paint stand out in a given room. Contrasting colors are predicted to be in high demand in 2018.

Warm Colors
Greys were the last word in great home décor up until recently. Warm colors are making a comeback and homeowners are opting to choose inviting colors rather than those which are cold and “unfriendly”. Tans, off-yellows and red accents are going to be coming into homes, adding warmth and comfort to the area by way of wall paint, curtains, rugs, and other accents. Even deep, earthy browns are becoming more favorable than greys and blues.

Patterns: The Bolder the Better
Patterns have always had a place in homes as a way to add some spice to any room which needs a little help pulling away from the mundane. It’s been predicted that 2018 will see more bold, floral patterns coming into home furnishings. It’s especially attractive to mix floral patterns with contrasting solid colors. For example: rose-patterned throw pillows accompanying a couch or chair with lavender or lilac cushions.

The patterns don’t have to end with floral prints. Mediterranean-style patterns are also beautiful and packed with color to draw attention to the whole of a room. A peacock print is also a great contrast for grey or sandy furniture.

There are several ways to ensure your new home project is visually pleasing and keeps up with popular styles in the coming year. When in doubt, though, you could always be a trailblazer and establish new trends for other homeowners to follow.
